Herpes Simplex Keratitis - an unusual clinical presentation.
A case of posterior corneal abscess with extension into the anterior chamber, in the presence of an intact corneal epithelium and clear anterior corneal stroma, occurring in a young patient is described. The patient responded to treatment with systemic and topical acyclovir. The diagnosis of presumed herpes simplex keratitis was made. We report this unusual presentation of ocular herpes manifes...
متن کاملAn Unusual Presentation of Herpes Simplex Virus Encephalitis
We present a case of a 65-year-old man with an acute alteration in mental state that was initially diagnosed as a functional psychiatric condition. After extensive workup, herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) was detected in the patient's cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) by polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and he responded rapidly to treatment with acyclovir. The case illustrates the importance of acti...
متن کاملHerpes simplex keratitis. An experimental study.
The incidence of complicated herpes simplex keratitis appears to have increased and the important factor seems to be associated with the use of topical corticosteroid hormone. A good experimental model exists for the study of herpetic keratitis. The disease corresponds to the primary infection in man. The unfavorable effects of corticosteroid hormone on experimental herpetic keratitis is reported.
متن کاملEpidemiology of Herpes Simplex Keratitis.
Considerable information has been accumulated concerning the herpes virus and its relationship to man, its natural host (Table VI). It is evident that to control the diseases produced, by the virus it is essential that some means be found not only to control the acute manifestations but also to eliminate the harbored virus from the readily available supply in the numerous ubiquitous carriers. A...
متن کاملHerpes Simplex Keratitis: Bilateral Effects.
Müller et al. studied corneal nerve morphology and endothelial cell density (ECD) in patients with and without unilateral herpes simplex keratitis (HSK). They demonstrated correlated reductions in corneal central ECD, subbasal nerve number and length, and sensation in both the affected and clinically unaffected contralateral eyes. They suggest a potential link between corneal innervation and en...
